Stanhope’s Environmental Commitment

When you choose our “Stay Clean, Stay Green” program we:

1. Replace only bath amenities that are completely empty.
2. Replace only those towels that you place on the bathroom floor or in the tub.
3. Change your bed linens on the third day of your stay.

Why choose the “Stay Clean, Stay Green” program?

1. Environmental benefits are great as we use less water, electricity, and throw out less garbage
2. Reduced wear & tear on towels & bedding from less washing gives them a longer life span and reduces the amount of landfill products.
3. A feeling that you are contributing to a cleaner PEI and maintaining our pristine environment.

Other things we do to reduce our impact include:

• We choose cleaning supplies that have less chemical impact on the environment.
• Using daily cleaning chemicals that have a MSDS health rating of “1” or less.
• Majority of our lighting is energy efficient.
• We send electronic info packages and sales contracts whenever possible.
• We scan & use electronic copies of items as much as possible.
• All Hazardous wastes are properly collected stored, transported and disposed of.
• We turn off lights in guestrooms and our offices when they're not required.
• We recycle all paper, newspapers, cardboard, and bottles.
• We have an active compost program for our breakfast bar, kitchen, dining room & banquet events.
• We donate our lamps, furniture, old dishes, and glassware to staff and charities.
• Partly used toilet rolls and amenities are used in staff areas.
• Our refundables are returned for recycling.
• We recycle worn linens of all kinds as cleaning rags.
• We use local produce and seafood whenever possible.
• We provide water in pitchers for meetings and events (whenever possible), in place of plastic water bottles.
• We use stainless steel utensils at all of our functions, breakfast, etc. instead of plastic utensils. We also use actual plates, bowls, etc. at all times, including breakfast.
• Our guest & staff parking is a combination of stone and grass parking.
• We encourage our guests to walk or bike to the National Park beach (less than 10 min walk) instead of taking their vehicles to help reduce pollution.
• We use cloth napkins in our dining room and for banquet events whenever possible.
• We clean our A/C filters on a regular basis to provide a healthy air quality and keep our units running at maximum efficiency.
• Tracking electricity consumption on monthly basis and eventually year to year basis to see improvements.
• Recycling program in guest rooms – make sure that we have a waste basket and separate blue bin.
• Light switch motion activated sensors for energy reduction in our newly built conference room washrooms.
• Turn down heat or A/C in unused rooms.
• All new appliances purchased are Energy Star rated.
• Welcome gifts, VIP items are made locally on PEI.
• Use Natural & Local Soaps in our guestrooms as much as possible.
• Use Press + Wash amenity system for reduced waste and natural products in our cottages.
• Low-flow showerheads being purchased for all replacement showerheads.
• Low-flow sink aerators being purchased for all replacements.
• Actual hand towels used in conference centre washrooms.
• Turn off lamps in lobby at night to reduce environmental impact.

We have been happy to announce that we have been accepting dogs since the 2010 season in some of our different rooms. Our VIP (Very Important Pets) Rooms are as follows:

We now have 8 of our Master Rooms with 2 Double Beds in the Davis House available for our pet lovers. We also have our 2 Bedroom Private Cottage and 3 Bedroom Summer House that are pet friendly for extended stays with us. All of these rooms have direct access to the grass areas to make your dog's visit as easy as possible.

We do have a $35 one-time pet fee that includes the following:

• Pet Bed
• Dog Bowl
• Chef Shaun's Specially Prepared Dog Treat

We do not have a size limit to our dogs visiting but please make sure all pets are leashed and any messes are cleaned up immediately. Please make sure to let us know ahead of time so we can make sure everything you need for your pets vacation (and yours) is ready for you upon arrival.
